Education is our foundation

We believe all people have the ability within themselves to solve their greatest challenges.

Our Journey

When Rinda Hayes visited Taru, Kenya in 2005, she learned that 95% of children dropped out of school after middle school due to an inability to pay school fees. In Taru, extreme poverty and illiteracy were the norm.

Shortly after, Rinda worked with Principal Joseph Mwengea to identify and sponsor 14 high-achieving students. From this small beginning, a vision emerged.

Twenty years later, Kenya Keys has sponsored the education of 934 students. Learn more about our community programs and wide-reaching impact.

A look back at 20 years: this video reflects on two decades of the Kenya Keys journey.

Our Work

Kenya Keys provides high school and college education sponsorships, among several other programs and partnerships. Our focus region is Taru and southern Kenya, a rural and drought-ridden area.

Our sponsored college students receive education funding through donors; none require student loans.

Our Values

Education is the most valuable tool we can use against poverty.

Opportunity fosters personal growth and learning. There should be no handouts that increase dependency, invite discontent, or isolate the givers from the receivers.

Local leadership and their teams drive essential decisions, giving the community crucial ownership, accountability, and governance.

Cultural exchange and exposure are vitally enriching for everyone.

Volunteerism is crucial to a vital, dynamic organization fostering global citizenship.
