Where to Start? Intern Post by Maranda Kilgore
Where to start… So many great people here. All are such earnest, hard workers. I was talking with one student today who told me that he, among the rest of them, chose not to date because it takes away from his studies. Could you ever imagine for one second an American high school student saying that?!
Phillip, one guy who was being interviewed for a Kenya Keys sponsorship, was such a great example to us all when he started talking to me about his home life. He is one of seven children with parents who work full-time just to put food in their bowls. (Not on their table, because they don’t own one.) Without a sponsor, Phillip will have to drop out of school one year before high school completion because his family cannot afford supporting him. But, humble as can be, he goes on to talk about how God is in all things and then he said, “May his blessing be upon you.” Here he is, having to drop out of school because they cannot afford it and yet with a humble, hopeful smile he still wishes God’s blessings to those around him. It has been an incredible experience to learn from these wonderful Kenyans.
