Magale Classroom Project: Guest Post by Lakeridge High School
The Magale school project was the brainchild of Lakeridge High School senior, Shelley Marsee, in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Shelley had seen a Kenya Keys – Samburu presentation and decided that she wanted to give meaning to her senior year by doing something to make a difference in the world. She organized friends, mobilized an entire school, and raised the $4,000 necessary to build a critically-needed classroom and necessary latrines at Magale Primary School.
The existing Magale school was dilapidated and was desperately crowded.
The children’s enthusiasm was great but the facilities were terrible.
There was great enthusiasm when it was announced that young people in the U.S. had made it possible for the new classrooms to be built.
Volunteer Moms did the best they could to try to help.
