High School

Mariam was abandoned by her parents when she was just months old. Raised by her aunt and uncle, Mariam has worked very hard to excel in her studies as a way of expressing her gratitude to them for encouraging her to go to school. Another reason for her dedicated efforts was that she knew she would need to qualify for a sponsorship from Kenya Keys to continue her education beyond 8th grade.

Mariam is just one example of a bright, dedicated, hard working Kenyan student who will do anything to get an education. She is currently being sponsored by a Kenya Keys sponsor and is doing well in her second year of secondary school.

Sponsoring a secondary (high school) student like Mariam costs just a little over $1 / day ($375 / year). Every dollar of your donation goes to supporting your student’s academic success, and your donation is tax deductible. The money provides tuition, room and board, books, a school uniform, and required fees for your student. Additionally, as part of the Kenya Keys Sponsorship Program they receive special mentoring, career counseling and leadership training opportunities.

Writing Letters to Your Student

Each year, you will have the opportunity to exchange letters and photos with your student. They will be hand delivered to your student by Kenya Keys’ interns who meet with your student, interview him or her, help your student set academic goals, and return the letter your student writes so it can be delivered to you, along with photos of your student.
